About the project
ToolBank for AutoCAD lets an AI assistant work directly in AutoCAD 2025. It connects tools like Claude to AutoCAD through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard for giving AI access to other software. The goal: an AI agent that produces production-grade drawings with no human drafting.
The challenge
AutoCAD is a large desktop application with decades of commands behind it. Connecting it to AI is easy to do badly: a tool can report success while the drawing is wrong. We needed every tool to be trustworthy, and an agent that would not get lost among hundreds of them.
The solution
One plugin runs inside AutoCAD and does the real work. Around it, 51 small MCP servers each cover one area, from 2D geometry to architectural, mechanical, civil and electrical drawings. The AI sees only a short list of entry tools and loads the rest when it needs them.
692 tools, each tested on a real AutoCAD
Every tool is checked against a live AutoCAD 2025, with a test built to fail if the tool is wrong.
A floor plan in 21 tool calls
Four rooms with walls, doors, windows, computed areas, a north arrow and a scale bar, drawn without any human drafting.
Undo you can trust
Before a risky change, the agent saves a snapshot of the drawing and can roll back to it if something goes wrong.
Works with the AI you already use
Use it from Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or any other MCP client, or from a chat panel inside AutoCAD.
Free, for a good cause
We could have sold ToolBank for AutoCAD. Instead, we released it for free under the MIT licence through AI4CharityPL, our initiative for giving useful AI away. We ask one thing in return: if it saves you time or money, pass some of that value on to the TOZ animal shelter in Wrocław.
The shelter has cared for homeless animals since 1962 and today looks after around 170 dogs and 140 cats. Winter is its hardest season, with heating, food and vet bills all going up at once. We don't collect or receive any of the money: every złoty goes straight to the shelter.
