About the project
Kancelaria Lex helps Polish advocates and legal counsel work through large case files. You load the documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT or RTF), ask a question in plain Polish, and get an answer where every sentence has a citation. Click it and the document opens with that exact passage highlighted. The app itself is in Polish, because it is built for Polish case files and Polish procedure.
The challenge
Lawyers can't rely on an AI that invents sources, and they can't send client files to the cloud. A Stanford study found that leading commercial legal AI tools still make up citations in 17 to 34% of cases. Professional secrecy and GDPR rule out sending case files to an outside service.
The solution
We built Kancelaria Lex so that both problems are prevented by design, not just by promise.
Citations it cannot make up
The model never writes a quotation. It picks a sentence number, and the code copies the text from the source. In every test run, zero citations disagreed with the source.
Nothing leaves the computer
No cloud services, three layers of network isolation, and a packet-level test that proves no data gets out. It even works with the network cable unplugged.
Honest about scans
Scanned documents are read with local OCR only when you switch it on, and every citation from a scan is marked so you check it against the original.
Facts, not legal advice
It finds facts and shows where they are. It does not assess the case or predict the outcome. The lawyer decides.
Measured, including the weak spots
Tested on 722 documents and 100 questions: over 80% citation accuracy, and over 80% correct refusals when the files hold no answer. We publish the numbers that look bad too.
Free, for a good cause
We could have sold Kancelaria Lex to law firms. That market pays well, and there is no good local-only alternative in Polish. Instead, we released it for free under the MIT licence through AI4CharityPL, our initiative for giving useful AI away. If it replaces a paid tool in your firm, please pass some of that value on to the TOZ animal shelter in Wrocław.
The shelter has cared for homeless animals since 1962 and today looks after around 170 dogs and 140 cats. We don't collect or receive any of the money: every złoty goes straight to the shelter. Built in Poland, given away for the dogs and cats of Wrocław.
